On the forum's opening day, Mr. Gvaramadze took part in a plenary roundtable discussion focused on "Geographical Indications and Signs: Protection in Different Jurisdictions". Representing Georgia alongside a panel of international experts, he provided a strategic overview of the current legal framework for geographical indications (GIs) within the Georgian jurisdiction.
During his presentation, Mr. Gvaramadze addressed critical challenges regarding the definition of "human factors" in Georgian appellations of origin. He specifically highlighted:
Traditional Winemaking: The technical complexities of differentiating appellations based on the unique "Kvevri" method - the traditional Georgian ceramic vessel used in winemaking.
Mineral Water Classification: The ongoing debate regarding the role of the human factor in the bottling process of mineral waters.
The session sparked significant interest, leading to productive technical exchanges and feedback from international delegates. This participation underscores Gvaramadze IP’s commitment to contributing to global IP policy and ensuring that Georgian legal challenges remain at the forefront of international discourse.
